Coco is crowing All. The. Time. starting at 3 this morning he has felt the need to declare his territory every hour on the hour, or sooner if he likes.
I'm not sure what to do. We have three weeks until we move (eighteen days really) and we're not legally allowed to have roosters. Now I know why.
What to do?
Chicken soup.
ReplyDeleteGo to your neighbors and explain the situation - that you're leaving in 18 days. That you thought you had 4 hens. That you are just as upset as they must be. Assure them that Coco will be gone in less than 3 weeks. Give them some eggs. They'll be okay. Even if someone calls the city on you, there won't be enough time for anything to happen before you leave.

He'll make good noodles...........seriously, you don't want to keep him. With only 3 hens, once he hits his maturity he'll beat them up so bad breeding them and he may get pretty mean. You don't want to ruin your kids on chickens because of a mean rooster! Put him on Craigslist!
ReplyDeleteI would explain to your neighbors. Not all roosters are mean and you could get more chickens out of it.
ReplyDeleteJohn Starnes has some info on his website about how he keeps roosters from crowing, but really, that's not the only problem. I bet he'd happily take Coco off your hands, as long as you don't mind that he'll end up as dinner. http://johnstarnesurbanfarm.blogspot.com/
